Fuik is a spectacular floating celebration in Curaçao, recognized as one of the largest events in the entire Caribbean. Fuik Bay is located on the southern coast of the island and offers stunning views of Table Mountain from the water. But when, how, and why did Fuikdag begin? It all started at the Curaçao Yacht Club in the early 1960s. A group of yacht and sailboat owners decided to gather every January 1 at 6:00 AM for a lovely breakfast. Initially, this small group enjoyed the meal, but when the organizers sought to shake things up and the boat owners felt the breakfast was too elaborate, they decided to keep the tradition alive. This time aboard their boats, floating in Fuik Bay. Eventually, the event was moved to the first Sunday of the year. This lively gathering is open to everyone, all you need is a boat to access and enjoy the festivities in Fuik Bay. Don’t forget to bring along a fun floatie whether it’s a swimming ring, inflatable flamingo, unicorn, boat, or even a penguin! People travel from all over to join Fuikdag, and it also features performances from well-known DJs!
